While we know GTA 6 is officially in development, Rockstar has basically not given us any information about gameplay, characters, features, etc. Nor has a string of rumors poured in, just speculation at best.
GTA 6 is likely still a few years away from release, but we expect to hear more about the game in 2023. We at least want to know where GTA 6 is set.
So, with that in mind, here’s what we’ve heard about GTA 6 so far; keep in mind that we’re taking some guesswork here as well.
GTA 6 release date rumors
GTA 6 is definitely in development. The only question is when developer Rockstar Games decides to launch the new version. rock star said “stay tuned“While not on the record, some employees see 2024 as plausible.
The latest rumors that GTA VI could be released in 2023 is based on publisher Take-Two’s huge expected marketing budget for the 12-month period ending March 31, 2024, in a recent financial statement. Details are in the report. However, Rockstar refuted the rumor, telling Gamesindustry.biz (opens in new tab) These projections relate to third-party commitments.
This is not the only information we can gather from these financial reports. Take-Two also expects a 14% growth rate in the fiscal year ending March 2024, which could signal when GTA 6 is released.
One Jefferies analyst reacted to the financial report: “There are only a handful of positions where management can be confident in issuing such strong guidance; we believe at least one Rockstar IP will be released in FY24.” The race Most likely GTA 6.
The recently posted “Film Game Capture Artist” job on the Rockstar careers page may be interpreted as a good omen for upcoming news. This post, which is essentially a person recording a gameplay trailer, may indicate that Rockstar plans to show off some GTA 6 gameplay in the near future.
In addition to this, the YouTuber recently claimed that a GTA 6 trailer may be coming soon. It’s worth noting, however, that the internet celebrities in question have provided no evidence to support their claims, so this should be taken with a grain of salt.
GTA 6 platforms: PS4, PS5, etc.
As for the consoles you can play on, a potential 2023/4 release means we’re firmly into the PS5/Xbox Series X generation. But if it feels generous, Rockstar may release versions for PS4 and Xbox One.
Rockstar also ported GTA V and Red Dead Redemption 2 to PC after their respective console releases, so eventual PC ports also seem likely.
GTA 6 characters and story leaked
The GTA series doesn’t follow a specific set of characters in all of its games, not even a single location. So anyone hoping to see more of Michael, Franklin and Trevor should temper their expectations.
The same goes for the city and surrounding areas of Los Santos. However, since Los Santos has been featured in previous games of the series (GTA: San Andreas to be precise), this could mean we’ll be visiting Liberty City again (from GTA IV), Sin City City (GTA: Sin City), Fierro or Las Venturas in GTA 6 of San Andreas, or maybe a new real-world city in the game adaptation of America. Rumors from a Twitter user claiming to be an insider say the game will be called GTA Vice, with the letters V and I likely capitalized to represent the Roman numeral for six.
Rumor has it that Rockstar has always been interested in Tokyo, but since Rockstar VP Dan Houser has said he believes “GTA is America,” it’s unlikely we’ll see the game cross virtual borders in this way.
As for the pacing of the narrative, there’s no doubt that you’ll indulge in the usual mix of crime and heist, and see the strange lives of heroes and villains with a strange eye.
A leak last year claimed we’d be getting a story similar to the Netflix series Narcotics through the eyes of a player character named Ricardo, focusing on the actions of gangs and cartels on both sides of the US/Mexico border.
The so-called “Project Americas” leak has fans very excited, claiming that the game has been in development for almost eight years and has three cities to explore; namely Liberty City, Vice City and a Rio de Janeiro-styled 1970s-80s new location. However, it’s clear that the leakers can’t stand up to what they say, so while it’s fun to imagine what the game will look like, it’s not what we’ll end up with.
GTA 6 settings
It’s thought that GTA 6 could take place in the 1980s, effectively seeing the game return to Sin City, which is basically Rockstar’s take on Miami in the ’80s. But this theory may not come to fruition.
A new post from Rockstar India hints at GTA 6’s modern setting, further backed up by speculation from fairly reliable tipster Tom Henderson. What form this modern environment will take is unclear. We want a London environment.
As it stands, there are plenty of cases where speculation can be made rather than hard facts and reliable leaks. Either way, you can expect blockbuster exploration and plenty of satire.
GTA 6 Online
Thanks to the regularly updated GTA Online mode, Grand Theft Auto V has enjoyed a stellar reputation since it was first released in 2013. This allows you to play multiple game modes or freely roam the map with other players for money that can be spent on cars, clothes, weapons and player housing.
As such, we’re likely to see a sequel appear alongside GTA 6. However, the two experiences may eventually separate. GTA Online originally launched a month after the single-player portion of the game, and now that consoles are able to install specific parts of the game instead of the entire package, Rockstar may decide to keep the two separate.
Either way, hopefully older players of GTA Online will have some way of transferring their in-game earnings and items to the new game. Rockstar has made a lot of money from players’ microtransactions in GTAO, and there are undoubtedly some players who don’t want this to go away with the migration of the new generation.
