Photo from Beyoncé’s “Dangerously In Love” album promo,

It’s hard to imagine the 2003 Beyoncé album being released today. When the singer released her debut solo album, Dangerously in love, June 20, 2003, she was 21 years old, had dated her then-boyfriend Jay Z, and is still best known for her role in girl group Destiny’s Child. She’s ready to come in explosively and prove herself the once-in-a-lifetime superstar she knows. She is ready to be everywhere.

And just like that, the singer’s debut album began a frantic, months-long publicity program that began long after its release. It’s almost impossible to get Beyonce out of the house to promote her latest album, regenerationthese days — she’s almost inevitable in 2003. Dangerously in love (The album’s release was delayed two weeks after it leaked online ahead of time – I guess something hasn’t changed), and Bey’s publicity reign officially begins. She appeared on morning news talk shows, late night talk shows, saturday night livein honor of the British royal family, at MTV’s BET Awards, at the VMA TRL, Promote the project at various fundraising events, and more. It seems like you can’t live without Beyoncé all week rehearsing for a show, shopping in London or hanging out backstage with photos circulating in the tabloids and Getty photographers. It was a whirlwind of an era, and Beyonce was at her peak as a pop star.

Now, nearly 20 years into her career, Beyoncé doesn’t have to put in extra effort to get to the top of the charts, and honestly, she deserves it. Still, it’s fun to recall and remember what it was like when she was hot in the A-game. Revisit some of Beyonce’s most memorable photos from that period, below.
